In-home ABA therapy in Colorado with Health First Colorado (Colorado Medicaid)

Most ABA providers on Colorado's Medicaid list come to the home: the state marks 147 of 186 as home based or center and home based.

The state's list sorts providers into home based, center based, and both. This page keeps the first and the third. The cards on top are the ones whose websites we have read; the full list below them has every home-based provider the state names, with the areas it prints.

Home-based does not mean the provider drives everywhere. Each site states the counties or cities it covers, and the state list prints an areas-served line. Check both before you call.

The featured provider and the 8 providers whose sites state it

Each card quotes the line and links the page it came from, read 18 October 2026. Ordered by Google reviews, then name. 139 more match but have no card yet; they are in the full list.

Home-based providers drive to you. Ask how far each one goes. Illustration.

What to ask a home-based provider

Ask how far the therapist will drive, how many hours a week they can staff in your area, and whether the same technician comes each week. Ask who supervises and how often. Ask whether sessions can happen at daycare or at a grandparent's house when the plan calls for it.

Then ask the only question the state list can't answer: do you have an opening for a child this age, in this town, now.

How Colorado Medicaid covers home-based therapy

Health First Colorado, run by the Department of Health Care Policy and Financing, pays for pediatric behavioral therapies that are medically necessary. The provider's BCBA assesses your child and sends a prior authorization request to the state's utilization management vendor; an approved request covers up to six months of therapy sessions. Nothing in the state's rules prices a home session differently from a center session.

A diagnosis of autism isn't required by the state. Children with a developmental delay, ADHD or a behavior concern can be assessed too, and the reviewer decides on medical necessity. Families with private insurance as well give the provider both cards; the commercial plan pays first.

What the treatment plan covers at home

A home plan usually has a handful of goals written in plain words: asking for things, following a two-step direction, getting through a bath or a meal, fewer meltdowns at transitions. A registered behavior technician (RBT) works on them in your rooms, with your toys, at the times of day the problems actually happen. The BCBA supervises on a schedule the plan sets and adjusts goals as your child moves.

Parent training is written into the plan, not added on. Ask how many hours a week of it you get and who runs it. That's the part that keeps working after the technician's car pulls away.

How to start ABA therapy in Colorado with Health First Colorado

Call a provider from the cards above. It assesses your child, writes the treatment plan and files the prior authorization request with Colorado Medicaid; an approved request covers up to six months of therapy sessions. You don't file anything, and no autism diagnosis is required when the therapy is medically necessary. The three steps, with who to call.

Questions parents ask

Does Health First Colorado pay for ABA at home?

Yes. The benefit covers behavioral therapy that is medically necessary, and the state list itself marks which providers deliver it at home. The prior authorization sets the hours; the setting is between you and the provider.

Is in-home ABA better than a center?

Neither is better for every child. Home sessions teach skills where they are used, with the parent in the room. Centers add peers and a structured day. Many providers on this list do both, and some start at home and move to a center as the child gets older.

Why do some rows say the site was not read?

We read the websites of the providers that appear in a city's top cards. The rest are shown with the state's own data only. Every row still links the site where the state prints one.

How this list is made. Every provider here is on Colorado's own list of Health First Colorado behavioral therapy providers. We read that list and each provider's website on the date printed on the page and quote what they say. The featured provider is placed by arrangement and is held to the same facts as every other row. How we list providers.

Being on the state list means a provider is enrolled. It does not mean it has an opening. Photos are illustrations, not any provider's staff or families. This is not medical advice.
